Sorry, but some browsers just don’t seem to like this link… Basic Information: Who: for guys & gals ages over the age of 18 What: 5 week beginner sewing lessons Where: FCCG Workroom (our workroom) When: See Calendar or schedule for Dates and Times Why: to learn to use a sewing machine and follow simple sewing patterns How: by completing at least 4 simple sewing projects designed to teach various basic sewing skills Also Note: All classes will be small (2-4 people). No sewing equipment is required—we supply the sewing machines and “tools” needed to complete the projects. The only thing needed is fabric/materials for the projects. A list of materials will be supplied. Some materials may also be available on our website. A sewing guide book will be included with the course. Cost: 5 Week Course $120 Taxes are INCLUDED in all prices. Details: Here is a listing of what will be covered in the course: Tools & Equipment—what they are and how they are used Sewing Machine—the parts and what each one does; threading the machine; bobbing winding; maintenance; feet; tension; stitch length; forward & reverse; types of stitches Activity: play with machine—thread machine; adjust tension; adjust stitch length; try basic stitches; stitching in forward and reverse Fabrics—types of fabrics; needles & threads for types of fabrics Activity: selecting fabric based on project type—sorting through bins of fabric and selecting fabrics that would be good for specific projects; if using our materials for the project they will also select fabric for their projects Patterns—how to read patterns; pattern piece layout, pinning & cutting; transferring and marking; following pattern directions; finishing projects (turning, clipping seams, stitching closed) Activity: pin, mark and cut out pattern for 1st project; stitch sewing Project 1 (select 1 project from options listed) Zippers–zipper types; how to install a zipper using a zipper foot; 2 methods to attach a zipper Activity: pin, mark and cut out pattern for 2nd project; stitch sewing Project 2 (select 1 project from options listed) Patterns, part 2—how to take measurements and select a pattern size; how to make a simple pattern Simple clothing—how to make an elastic waist band; how to hem Activity: take measurements, make pattern, pin, mark and cut out pattern for 3rd project; stitch sewing Project 3 (select 1 project from options listed); Simple Clothing, part 2—how to attach collars; what is interfacing used for; how to attach sleeves Activity: pin, mark and cut out pattern for 4th project; stitch sewing Project 4 (select 1 project from options listed); Sergers & Embroidery Machines (if time allows) - what they do; why use them Activity: pin, mark and cut out pattern for 5th project; stitch sewing Project 5 — Memory board or Place Mats (if time allows).
